Private
Road Insurance is a type of land insurance that is generally looked at by
people within a Residents Association as they will generally want to get
insurance to protect themselves from any instance in which they could be held
liable by a member of the public who had an accident on the land and held them
responsible because they were the land owners.
Usually if
a Residents Association wants to insure their road it's because the public have
rights of access to it and therefore there is a chance that someone could get
injured as they were walking across it. The private road insurance would give
you Public Liability Insurance so that if you were found to be responsible for
any injury a third party suffered on the land and you had to pay them damages
then the insurance would help with that.
This
insurance is basic cover of one million pounds worth of Liability Insurance for
the road but there are various other things that you can get such as Legal
Expenses Insurance or Employers Liability Insurance added on to the policy.
There are also two other levels of cover that you can get with public liability
at either two million or five million pounds limit.
The general
price for a years cover starts from around £200 but this is for the basic level
of cover. To get a quotation you will have to know various things about the
road you are insuring such as the postcode, the use of the land, how big it is
and how long you have owned the land. There is usually a condition that if
insuring a road that it be less than half a mile long and that it is in a good
condition.
There are
of course various things that can change the price that you will pay for a
year, for example if you have any automatic gates or barriers on the road then
you would have to pay a higher premium, also if there are any water courses or
water features on or adjacent to the road the that may change the premium.
